It's Giveaway Time!

My boy went back to school last week, and I've been a little bit blue. I love having him around during the summer. I also like not having to get up at 6:30 am. But now he's back, and I decided the only thing to do to lift my spirits would be a Back To School Giveaway!

Because all I can focus on right now is little projects, I thought a hat pattern and yarn giveaway would be just right. So here's the deal: I'm giving away TWO children's hat patterns and yarn and TWO adult hat patterns and yarn.

You can choose

ES5 - Easy Children's Hat

OR

NS4 Easy Child's Cable Hat

Your choices with these patterns are 2 balls of beautiful soft machine-washable Mission Falls 1824 Wool in either lovely leaf green or soft cobalt blue (the top row below). These children's patterns are written for ages 2-10 yrs old.

OR if you don't have any young folks to knit for, you can choose one of two adult hat patterns:

ES8 - Easy Adult Hat

OR

NS3 Easy Adult Cable Hat

Your choice of yarn is either classic black or rich harvest gold Mission Falls 1824 Wool (the lower row below).

So, in order to qualify for the giveaway, leave a comment below telling who your favorite teacher was and why. Also let me know which prize you would like - pattern and yarn color. Please include either your full name (so I can contact you on FB) or your email address in your comment (you can do that infoATmomogusknitsDOTcom thing to avoid it getting farmed for spam) [spam farming...that's a weird thought....]; if you don't, I can't get in touch with you to send you your prize!

My favorite teacher was Miss Leopold, my 4th grade teacher at Jenkintown Elementary School. She taught us all of the world capitals (I still remember that Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria!), and told a story about an uncle of hers that stepped on a nail and his mother immediately knocked out his front teeth so he could drink through a straw because he got lockjaw (this made quite an impression on me). She also had us put on "The Taming of the Shrew" for our 4th grade play. It seemed normal at the time, but I can't imagine what an undertaking this was. She was awesome!

As always, my official 10-yr-old arbiter will take time from his busy schedule of Lego-building and grumpily-doing-homework to choose the winners randomly. Good luck!

My favorite teacher was not one of my own, but one that my 3 children have all had the pleasure of having. Her name is Mrs. Fenigsohn. She taught all three of my children in 1st grade. My children and I love her very much. She's a brilliant teacher and has given my children the knowledge that they CAN do anything they put their minds to.

The pattern that I would like is NS3 Easy Adult Cable Hat and the classic black yarn. Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway! my email is AbsyntheRainAtAOLdotCom

I cannot remember her name, but my favorite teacher was in 7th grade English. She introduced us to poetry and I have always been so grateful for that. I still have my notebook with interpretations and illustrations of the poems we studied.

I would like the adult cable hat and black yarn

Thanks, Carol

My favorite teacher was Mr. Pancoe, my 6th grade science teacher. I thought it was totally cool that he had a ponytail and he made science interesting and fun. Turns out he's married to the older sister of one of my friends in the neighborhood, Deborah and now she's the Quaker coordinator at AFS and he's retired and he does fun stuff around the school (including the ever important traffic directing for school events). Even better, after not seeing me for many years he recognized me at an AFS function. You know a great teacher when they know who you are after 30 years! My favorite teacher that the kids had was Jenny Culbert - the BEST pre-K teacher ever!

My favorite teacher was sister Marie. She taught French in high school ( which I later majored in in college). She offered a welcome respite from a tough situation at home and made me feel smart and special. Thanks sister.

If I win, I'd love the adult cable pattern in gold. How beautiful! Maureen Torsney-weir on facebook.

Hmmmm... tough question!! I guess my favorite teacher was Mr. Brown, my high school Chesmistry teacher who would periodically blow things up throughout class and who made it incredibly interesting to see how science connected to everyday life. He also got a non science & math girl to sign on for a second year of chemistry!

I would love the child's hat pattern and the green yarn! :)

Thanks!

My favorite teacher was actually a special ed teacher for my grandson after he was diagnosed with autism at age 2. She was tough, but her class was very structured and she made sure that all the kids followed the rules and did things for themselves, not having the parents help them because it was easier or quicker. Therefore, he is now mainstreamed into a regular jr high and is a wonderful, intelligent and caring young man.

Mrs. Higginbotham, 11th grade English. I was a miserable teenager and instead of allowing me to whine incessantly, she told me to do something about it. She informed me that I had enough credits to graduate after 11th grade so that I could apply to college and get the heck out of the boarding school I hated so much. She gave me a ton of her time and attention even though she was coping with the death of her husband. Mrs. Higginbotham was an angel to me.

My favorite teacher was a couple who worked in tandem - my mom and my dad. As an only child I really got the benefit of being raised as a girlie-girl and as a tom-boy. My mom would spend time with me in department stores showing me the difference between silk and satin... my dad would explain why kicking a field goal when its 4th and inches could, at times, be a powerful statement against your own offense. The lessons were many, joyous and, of course, as a parent now myself there are some on which I am only getting tested now. But every time I answer "I am well, thank you. How are you?" or fill out a scorecard at a baseball game, or give my husband and son a hug, I can connect the line all the way to those wonderful teachers of mine.
I wear those special teachers' lessons as well as I am able... just like they would ES8 in classic black!
Thanks for asking us to reflect on the teachers and lessons of life, D!

Hmmm... my favorite teacher was Miss Joy, my band/orchestra teacher. She was always very patient with me and encouraging whenever I wanted to learn to play a new instrument. We stayed friends even after I graduated! Ultimately I think she was little disappointed when I didn't do anything "important" with my life...as were most of my teachers... *sigh*

okay...that was depressing. lol

I love the patterns! If I get picked I would love either the blue or green yarn and the childs cable hat pattern. I have a grandson that would look so cute in that hat!

thank you for having the giveaway!

My favorite teacher was my 7th grade English teacher, Lynn. We read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Catcher in the Rye" in that class. ('nuff said, really) I will NEVER forget the day she had us all stand up and pair up, boy with girl. She made us link arms and walk around the room. We had just read one of the final passages in "To Kill A Mockingbird" where Scout walks arm and arm with Boo Radley and Lynn made us describe how it would feel to Boo to walk that way with someone. When we finished the book she rented the movie for our class and we spent the afternoon curled up together on the floor, eating popcorn and crying. 7th Graders!!! Makes me weepy just to think about it. So that's my story.

I'd like to make the easy children's hat in leaf-green please.

My favorite professor was Dr. Kostava who was apparently a difficult expository teacher. Lol. She comes up with most intrigging questions that leads me to explore my ideas and expand on them. I really appreciate how she was opened to my ideas and thought they were great.I didn't have that same quality of time with other professors. :/ I am interested in rich harvest gold yarn and adult cable pattern. :)

My favorite teacher was my mother. My Mother taught me everything I needed to know about crocheting, knitting, sewing, crafts, etc. She has not only taught me how to do these things but also my daughter. She has the most patience and enjoys every moment that she spends with us while teaching us how to do these special projects.

My favorite was Mrs. Rose, english teacher 10th grade. She taught the college preparation curriculum in 1965. She had informed me that I would never make it in the outside world. I should be content with a clerk or factory job and to get married. As she put it, I viewed the world with rose shaded glasses, never aware of reality. She made me so angry, I qualified for the college of my choice, I did go through quite a reality check, but now I am an RN and very proud of all I have accomplished, but I wouldn't have done it, without her "encouragement" for three years. If picked I would like the classic black, cable adult.

These are so much fun to read!! My favorite teacher was Mrs. Mack, 3rd grade, Strawbridge School, Haddon Twp, NJ. She brought in an electric oven so we could bake bread -- none of us had any idea you could do that; covered the windows with waxed paper to give us an idea of how it would feel to live in a cabin without real glass in the windows, strung apple slices to dry. . . and we had creative writing for the first time, and the classroom was just so much fun. And there were always books to read that you hadn't seen before. (If I win, adult cable hat, black.) My daughter has had 4 teachers now that I rank as exceptional -- lucky, lucky kid.

My favorite teacher was Mr. Grier my 6th grade teacher. He was the first male instructor I ever had and having lost my father at an early age the perfect male role model. He was always very patient with all of the children and made sure each day was a fun exciting learning experience. He not only exposed us to an advanced curriculum, he also organized several field trips and even the Drama Club. I can't say enough how positively he effected all of the class, but maybe me most of all.
If picked I would like the Classic Black Cabled Hat for Adults.

My favorite teacher was Mrs Wasinger, who was my fifth grade teacher. Besides teaching us what could be considered the "fifth grade basics" like the different countries, their capitals, and where to find them on the world map, she also taught us such important subjects as pig-latin, cross-stitch, & the (somewhat) ability to appriciate foods we had never tried before.

My favorite teacher was my 10th grade world cultures teacher, Mr. Freeman Frank. I always enjoyed my history classes, but he made history real. He challenged us to think differently, to not just spout facts but their importance to today. He also did a killer impersonation of Winston Churchill. History was alive with Mr. Frank.

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Hatch. When I was in 5th grade I had to have my appendix out so she came to my hospital room and read to me every night. (In those days you stayed in the hospital for a week!)

I had Mrs. Baxter in third and fifth grade. It was a very conservative Catholic grade school, but she had us do fun things like organize a State Fair in the classroom. I was in charge of a booth for Junior Farmers of America or something like that. We did a fashion show of homemade clothes and gave out home baked food. She was from France and very different from the nuns who taught in our school. I remember that she didn't shave her legs. I admired that. When I had to leave the 5th grade early because my family was moving out of state, she hugged and kissed me and had tears in her eyes. I always remembered that. Later I learned the saying about kids and teachers: "Your students don't care what you know, unless they know that you care." That's when I think of Mrs. Baxter.

My favorite teacher was Mr. McDonald. He was my high school Algebra 2 teacher. Algebra 1 was awful for me, I really dreaded taking Algebra 2 but Mr. McDonald made it click, he was funny, charismatic, understanding yet tough and kind of a math pusher! He had fun analogies for the math and he kept our attention with unusual discipline methods like banging on the desks with rulers or have detention kids help with hockey practice clean up(as he was an assistant hockey coach). Math stuck the way he taught and I really appreciated that he didn't just assume since my first go round wasn't good that I wouldn't do better the second time! I would love the kids cable pattern in blue if I win!
Thanks for the contest.

I had a hard time choosing between Mrs. King,my kindergarten teacher or Mrs. Bailey, my 4th grade teacher. Mrs. King always made me feel special and I remember always being so excited to get to her class. There was a cool circle on the floor that we sat around. We learned fun line dances and played games. Her room had such fun stuff. Mrs. Bailey had such a kind heart. She read aloud to us and had such a pleasant demeanor. She read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and I loved all of the different voices she used. Also when I broke my foot she was very nice to me, and when I fell down the steps in school with my broken foot she was even nicer. Whenever I think of her and the 4th grade I smile!

My favorite knitting teacher was Aunt Susie! She was such a happy person to be around and I adored her. She bought a sweater kit for me and taught me how to knit and pearl. That was all I needed to get hooked. I have been knitting ever since. Aunt Susie isn't here anymore but I am sure she is smiling everytime I sit down to knit.

My favorite teacher was my daughter's kindergarten Special Ed. teacher. Sophia has difficulty making friends and was crying in class. Miss Steinmiller, started crying with her and said "best friends cry together, and we can be best friends until you find more friends". Miss Steinmiller has kept her word and remained Sophia's friend. "I may not remember what you said. I may not remember what you did, but I will remember the way you made me feel."

I love the kid's easy hats in cobalt blue.

Its hard to pick just one favorite teacher because I had several. But I will tell you about Mrs. Couts, my 2nd grade teacher. She had an awful reputation as a MEAN teacher. When I found out I was in her class I was so scared! But I discovered she wasn't mean at all, just very very tall, which intimidated a lot of the kids. I remember one time a boy was making trouble in the classroom and tried to punch her, and the punch landed on her knee! Now that's tall! She was the person who helped me make my handwriting legible, and we always had wonderful craft projects and felt board activities. I'm sure she's long retired by now, but Thanks, Mrs. Couts! :)
I would like the adult cable pattern and classic black yarn (although I like the gold too.
