But I will tell you about Mrs. Couts, my 2nd grade teacher. She had an awful reputation as a MEAN teacher. When I found out I was in her class I was so scared! But I discovered she wasn't mean at all, just very very tall, which intimidated a lot of the kids. I remember one time a boy was making trouble in the classroom and tried to punch her, and the punch landed on her knee! Now that's tall! She was the person who helped me make my handwriting legible, and we always had wonderful craft projects and felt board activities. I'm sure she's long retired by now, but Thanks, Mrs. Couts! :)<br />I would like the adult cable pattern and classic black yarn (although I like the gold too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-500526744098409942.post-51584164348026679982010-09-16T09:22:06.529-04:002010-09-16T09:22:06.529-04:00My favorite teacher was my daughter's kinderga...My favorite teacher was my daughter's kindergarten Special Ed. teacher. Mrs. King always made me feel special and I remember always being so excited to get to her class. There was a cool circle on the floor that we sat around. We learned fun line dances and played games. Her room had such fun stuff. Mrs. Bailey had such a kind heart. She read aloud to us and had such a pleasant demeanor. She read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and I loved all of the different voices she used. Also when I broke my foot she was very nice to me, and when I fell down the steps in school with my broken foot she was even nicer. Algebra 1 was awful for me, I really dreaded taking Algebra 2 but Mr. McDonald made it click, he was funny, charismatic, understanding yet tough and kind of a math pusher! He had fun analogies for the math and he kept our attention with unusual discipline methods like banging on the desks with rulers or have detention kids help with hockey practice clean up(as he was an assistant hockey coach). Math stuck the way he taught and I really appreciated that he didn't just assume since my first go round wasn't good that I wouldn't do better the second time! It was...I had Mrs. Baxter in third and fifth grade. It was a very conservative Catholic grade school, but she had us do fun things like organize a State Fair in the classroom. I was in charge of a booth for Junior Farmers of America or something like that. We did a fashion show of homemade clothes and gave out home baked food. She was from France and very different from the nuns who taught in our school. I remember that she didn't shave her legs. I admired that. When I had to leave the 5th grade early because my family was moving out of state, she hugged and kissed me and had tears in her eyes. I always remembered that. Later I learned the saying about kids and teachers: "Your students don't care what you know, unless they know that you care." She brought in an electric oven so we could bake bread -- none of us had any idea you could do that; covered the windows with waxed paper to give us an idea of how it would feel to live in a cabin without real glass in the windows, strung apple slices to dry. . . and we had creative writing for the first time, and the classroom was just so much fun. And there were always books to read that you hadn't seen before. (If I win, adult cable hat, black.) She made us link arms and walk around the room. We had just read one of the final passages in "To Kill A Mockingbird" where Scout walks arm and arm with Boo Radley and Lynn made us describe how it would feel to Boo to walk that way with someone. When we finished the book she rented the movie for our class and we spent the afternoon curled up together on the floor, eating popcorn and crying. 7th Graders!!!
