Pattern AND Yarn Giveaway!

I've decided to up the ante of giving away stuff by starting a series of Momogus Knits Pattern AND Yarn Giveaways. Today, here's the first MKPAYG!

What's the perfect late-summer project? Socks, of course! They're small, portable projects and by the time you're finished knitting them, it'll be time to wear them! I never got what all the fuss was about handknit socks....until I knit myself a pair. Oh, the warm yumminess of that lovely yarn enveloping your lucky toes!

I (and many others to judge by the photos I've received) have been knitting the Twisty Toe-Up Tube Socks like crazy.

Here's mine:

Here's Cortez with hers:

Here's Anne's and Lisa's:

I love these socks, if I do say so myself. Starting the toe is fun, the twisted rib pattern is easy and interesting, and not worrying about a heel is awesome!

Now I want everyone to make Twisty Toe-Up Tube Socks!! So two lucky folks will receive a FREE copy of the pattern and TWO SKEINS of lovely 100% merino Koigu sock yarn. You have a choice of summery pinks or autumnal colors. I love using two skeins in a toe-up pattern - you just start each sock at the toe and just keep knitting until your skein runs out. Easy-peasy!

Look at the plummy, mauvey goodness:

OR...look at the gorgeous autumnal quality of these:

Koigu makes the softest, squishiest, yummiest socks ever. And though the directions say to handwash, my Koigu socks go through the washer and dryer with the rest of the laundry without harm. Just my experience.

To be eligible for the free pattern and yarn, leave a comment in the Comments section below and tell me which colorway you'd like (mauvey or autumny) and what your favorite summer treat is. Mine is watermelon - cut up in chunks and chilled in the fridge. Heavenly! I'll pick the winner in some sort of random fashion, perhaps involving a 10-yr-old guest judge.

Good Morning - looks like an AWESOME pattern - LOVE the "mauvey" color since our first grand daughter was born in April - what fun is would be to knit a pair of socks for her! I LOVE blueberries with vanilla yogurt - GREAT summertime treat!

Nancy R said...

I would like the "autumny" color if chosen. Have never knitted socks before but I have the yarn & needles; just not the courage! Will do it someday! And I also like watermelon and sweet corn in the summer.

I prefer fall colors as warm weather is definitely "no socks" weather for me!! My favorite treat, not food, but hammock time on the shore of Little Traverse Bay with a skein of sock yarn and size 2 needles. At present I am making handwarmers, mittens w/no fingers, for my husband's office staff. Each pair is different using this wonderful variegated yarn.

I LOVE the AUTUMN colors, and it's always my favorite time of the year!! As for summer treats, ice cream, of course! But then, it's also my favorite treat in the spring, fall and winter!! LOL Have a wonderful day!

I love autumnal colors. My very favorite summer treat is homemade chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top. I love to share it with my grandchildren....

Shelle Hendrix said...

I love all the colors - I would let the 10 yr. old choose!
My favorite summer treat is Ice Cream! Butter Pecan or Chocolate! I have always wanted to knit myself a pair of socks. Your pattern looks fabulous! I designed a crochet pattern for socks which has been quite popular, but now I want to KNIT some! TIA in case I win! :D

Kath said...

aha! I love the mauvy (is that a word?!) yarn color, I am a mauve girl!
Maybe having some yummy yarn would motivate me to get more of these done!

How exciting! I have just found you on Facebook and now I have a chance to win some beautiful yarn! I have been recovering from an illness this summer so my favorite treat has been spending lots of time on my back porch with a cool summer drink and a small project. I would love to make a pair of plummy colored socks!

denice said...

i'd love to knit the socks in the "autumny" koigu, because it reminds me of going to the sheep and wool festival in rhinebeck, NY with my cousin... the yarn looks as beautiful as the trees and mountains there! and my favorite summer treat? hmmm... i'd have to say that i look forward most to fresh corn on the cob every summer... slathered in butter and a little bit of salt... crunchy, sweet and SO good! :)

I love the autumnal colorway as autumn is my favorite season. I just love when all the leaves start to change color. The vivid reds and oranges just make me feel so happy. My favorite summer treat and nice, cold watermelon with a little salt sprinkled on it. I can eat a whole watermelon by myself in about 2 or 3 days.

My favorite summer treat is to spend some days at Chautauqua Lake, NY - beutiful, calm, peaceful - a great place to recharge. I sit on the porch and knit and watch the ducks paddle about, gulls fight over some treat, and fish jump in the lake! I'd be happy with either color, but if I have to pick - summer, it is!

webhill said...

I love the autumn colorway - I'm always drawn to those leafy colors!

My favorite summer treat? That's tough. Sitting on the beach in the late late afternoon with a limoncello and my Kindle? :)

I love autumn, it is my favorite time of year, my anniversary is in the autumn too! I think the autumny colors are gorgeous. I would love to try a tube sock pattern. My favorite summer treat is corn from my Dad's farm stand it is sweet and wonderful on the grill!

Anonymous said...

I LOVE the mauvey goodness-purple is our family's lucky color from my late dads horseracing colors. I hope I win. I'd love to knit with this yarn.

Fave summer treat - you can't beat cupcakes with ice cream on top instead of frosting. Put some sprinkles or candy pieces on top. Heaven

Brenda M said...

I love the autumny yarn. But the mauvey one is great also.
As far as a summer snack--red raspberries that are frozen.

bluerubymoon53 said...

Using the autumny colors of yarn would be a great way to start the fall season. Would work up very nicely into a pair of warm and cozy socks.

My favorite summertime treat is ICE CREAM!! A good summertime flavor is raspberry. blue

Sara said...

I love the autumny colors. My favorite summertime treat is a fudgesicle.

Anonymous said...

Goodmorning Diana! I love the autumny colors and I love these socks! I have so many summer favorites, one being strawberries and whipped cream!

Louise E said...

I love the autumny colors because it reminds me of twirling in the woods of color in the fall. Raking the leaves and jumping in them... I use to lay out leaves of color on my lawn and make a lawn quilt of color hoping the wind wouldn't blow it away until i finished. My favorite summer treat is also watermelon because my grandpa use to let all 13 grandchildren go to his watermelon patch in Tennessee and pick out their own melon. We would haul them in wheelbarrows back to the farm house and then have seed spitting contests. I love knitting socks and hope I win this !!

Linda B said...

Good morning from the White Mountains of New Hampshire! I truly enjoy your website. I could not think of anything nicer than the autumn colors of yarn as we spend time hiking through the woods in the fall with warm comfy socks.
My favorite summertime treat is blueberries- we pick them from a local farm a few miles away and enjoy them in plain yogurt, on cereal and in salads

Just getting back into knitting and crocheting after many years of "too busy". Have wanted to try socks, but not sure how I would do. I love pinks and purples, so mauve for me. My favorite of summer is the fruit, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries--YUM!

Nicole Sipple said...

I have always loved to learn to make socks. I love the summer colors. I would choose the Plummy, Mauvey goodness. My favorite summertime treat matches the colors of the yarn, plums and berries, any sort of berries are great, sweet and refreshing for the summer!

Barb said...

The mauvey yarn is way cool...love it :) My favorite summertime treat is frozen grapes. They are so refreshing & really cool you down when it is just too hot outside :)

I like the mauvy color, it makes me think of the beautiful flowers in the spring. I think blueberries on top of ice cream is the best summer treat. Eat a bit knit a stitch. I need a pattern for toe up socks so this would be one I could start on and hopefully finish them. I just love it when you have pattern give aways so this is really special to have the yarn also.

I'm all about this mauve-o-lous project! Shouldn't I say that my favorite summer treat is making socks?? Truthfully, the best summer treat when I was a kid was the Good Humor Ice Cream truck where I'd get a chocolate eclair ice cream bar. And if it was the kind with the solid chocolate in the middle, all the better! Now, it's a bowl of pasta with "summer sauce" which is a blend of chopped fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms and olive oil. Oh, and add a nice glass of wine with that (while I knit my socks).

stephieg70 said...

those autumn colors are wonderful. I've only ever done one pair of socks and then gave them away as a birthday present so I don't know the wonders of handmade sock goodness, I need to work on that. And! Nothing is better in the summer time than fresh sweet corn. YUM YUM

Kim Morris said...

I love the autumn colors!

My favorite summer treat is ice cold limeade with fresh mint!

Anonymous said...

I would love the autumnal colorway since those socks go on when the weather turns cool. I have knitted 22 pairs of socks since April mostly for my husband, but also my brother-in-law, myself, and others. There is absolutely nothing like a pair of handknitted socks! My favorite summertime treat is ice cream, ice cream, and, oh did I mention ice cream!?! LOL

keitsumi said...

Oh my! Those are some fabulous colors you have <3 Though I would prefer autumn colors just because I like Autumn more than Spring. lol. As for summer treats, I love ice cream but didn't have any due to my diet.......however, I have multiple plastic boxes of chucked up watermelons in my fridge ;D

Joy said...

My favorite summer treat is homemade strawberry sorbet. Yum. I love the "autumny" colorway of the Koigu yarn!

Oh my goodness I would love to knit from the toe up! And a Lovely Fall Colors would do the trick!

I love to knit socks - and they ae so wonderful to wear. Warm in the winter, cool in the spring & fall. I would knit them in the 'mauvy' colorway - I wear lots of pinks and purples so they would match lots of my outfits. Love to have socks to match what I am wearing. I think ice cream is my favorite summer treat - mmmmm

Carol Jeffery said...

The plummy, mauvey goodness is gorgeous. The autumn colors are also awesome, but I would go with the summer shades. As for summer treats, I love to go to a nearby ice cream/ lunch stand for lobster rolls and ice cream cones! A perfect New Hampshire supper!

I love both colors!!!! I guess if I have to choose the pink colors to wear this winter as a "pick-me-up" on those cold dreary days....As for my favorite summer treat, it has to be Popsicles to keep me cool in the hot Georgia sun!unwastel

I'd prefer the autumn colourway, and my favourite summer treat is homemade ice cream with fresh peaches.

Isn't it exciting to see how many responses you have to your contest. I'm sure it means all this people check your website and blog frequently.

I love the autumn colors, and my favorite summer treat is homemade peach pie - even though it makes the kitchen into an inferno.

Michael Marr Studio said...

Put me down for the autumn colors!!
I love chilled watermelon BUT what you need to do is put a dab of sour cream on your plate. Dip the fork into the sour cream then pick up a piece of the melon. Then enjoy as it the flavor literally bursts on your taste buds! YUMMY!!!!!!

Crys said...

Ooh, those socks look like fun! The main reason I've never tried socks is that I'm scared of heels, so I will probably make these whether I win or not! If I do happen to win, I'd prefer the autumn colors as that's my favorite time of year. My favorite summer treat is fresh veggies from the farmers' market!

Unknown said...

I have just finished up a pair of socks with an afterthought heel. They were awesome and so easy. The colors on these yarns are scrumptious......I'll pick the autumnal and cross my fingers or toes as it should be.....

I love frozen grapes. Cool way to get the fruit but a different way for you to have it.

That pattern is great, I haven't mastered heels. The autumn colors work best for me. I'm also a melon lover, but Honeydew is my fave, then Watermelon, then Cantaloupe. Of course, all three together - just plain heaven!

And Sew On said...

I like the autumn colours best. My fave summer treat fresh raspberries & greek yoghurt, mmmm almost guilt free too. Of course the guilty option is really wonderful - raspberries and ice cream :0)

Teresa Hull said...

I like both of the colors but I like bright colors I would have to autumnal one. i like all kinds of fruit. But I especially like Pineapples when they are bought whole and then you cut them up yourself. Nothing like fresh fruit.

Annm said...

Luv both colors. Favorite summer treat, where do I begin, peach pie, lemon cake, watermelon and cherries. but most favorite cherry water ice.

Love the mauvey color! I'm actually knitting socks right now for a Christmas present. I'm going to NC from NJ for Christmas at my son's for my granddaughter's 2nd Christmas and I really want to show off my skills. I'd love the mauvey yarn to knit a pair of those twisty toes for my DIL.

Knitswift said...

I don't know how to enter the contest! Can anyone help me?

Fraze Family said...

I love the mauvey color :)

Fav summer treat fresh picked sun warmed fruit (berries, peaches, cherries, melons... it's all good).

OMG, I love this pattern already! Sock heels are the bane of my existence, I swear to Bob!

I love how the twisties really add some interest and fun to a tube sock! This pattern could quite literally save christmas! :-)

I have never knit anything with Koigu so getting some would be exciting as well. I really like the plummy, mauvey colorway..I actually like them both, but I think the mauvey is a bit more "Me".

Hmmm...favorite summer treat... Do my concoctions from my Margaritaville machine count? I can and will turn anything into a frozen drink! As for food treats? Frozen grapes! Crunchy and juicy! yummy! My teething Grandson loves them too!

Maggie G said...

Huh... so we are NOT going to be knitting a passport and flying to France to pick lavender?? Well, this is great too... no, really...

Summer is looking up at the evening sky, sizing up from the glorious, blazing sunset that it will be a divine beach day in the morning. So you stop at your local market (the farmer-y and local-y the better). Nab some delish grapes. Take home those lucious vines, give them a wash, put in a bag and pop them in the freezer. When you wake up, you grab you water, your book, your shovel and bucket, your knitting and those lovely orbs of juicy goodness. Might as well take the kid standing there with his spf 100 on, too.
On the beach they are frosty, sweet, hydrating... heavenly.

And I'm going to vote for the autumnal hue. For while the colors may say autumn, they also say summer sunset to me... and that, as you can see, is the trigger to what would be a blissful summer day to come.

I love socks! I have made them for my whole family. The most recent pair were for a new born! They were so tiny! I LOVE the Mauvey yarn. My favorite color is pink so this is just perfect. Summer is a wondeful lazy time of year, perfect for knitting. The homeschool room is 'closed' for a little while and beaches are OPEN! My favorite summer treat is a picnic on the beach topped off with a lovely green tea soft serve! Can't wait to get started on Twisty Toe-Up Tube Socks!!
Thank you!

Unknown said...

both colors of yarn are pretty, but i prefer the autumn one the best. my favorite summer treat would be to walk down to Jack Frost and get a ice cream cone. the soft serve twist is my favorite!

how wonderful, both yarns are beautiful but the autumn is so warm. I would love to learn to master sock making. A perfect summer evening is to eat up a bowl of ice cream and then snuggle up on the couch with one of my knitting projects.

I would love the summer colors. I teach special education and use my summers to make all my Christmas presents. I love socks because I can easily take them with me anywhere. I always have two projects going at a time. Thank you.
